However a German businessman, Heinrich Schliemann had been fascinated by the stories of a well-known Greek philosopher, Homer. Schliemann believed in Homer's stories whereas many historians and archaeologists did not believe in any of the stories classifying them as myths. Heinrich Schliemann having made a large profit decided to spend his profits on excavating the areas around Troy and eventually Mycennae. When Schliemann decided to spend his money on excavating the areas, many believed he was wasting his money. Schliemann was at that point, a reasonably wealthy man, but he spent all his money on excavations. He first set off to Troy, in 1870.
