Crumbling Castles What is the Effect of Nitric Acid on Limestone? Variables o Concentration of Acid o Volume of Acid used o Mass of limestone used o Temperature of room o Temperature of Acid Basic Plan We are going to measure the amount of gas produced in the reaction of nitric acid and calcium carbonate (limestone). We are going to put different concentrations of nitric acid and record how much gas is produced using a gas syringe. We will keep the mass of the limestone and volume of the acid used the same. We will do this to keep the experiment a fair test. We will take into account the changes in temperature because we cannot control it very easily. o Fair Test: Keep mass of limestone and volume of acid the same. o Reliable Test: Repeat the test 3 or more times on each 'stage'. o Accurate Test: Try to keep the surrounding temperature and all other variables the same. Equipment List o...
