To work out the enthalpy change of combustion of alcohols

... Enthalpy of combustion planning Aim: To work out the enthalpy change of combustion of alcohols To work out the enthalpy change of combustion of the alcohols, the energy output must be measured. This simplest way of doing this accurately is to use the thermal energy of combustion to raise the temperature of a substance with a known specific heat capacity. The rise in temperature of this substance can then used to work out the thermal energy used to do this work. User Reviews of this Essay

What our users think of this essay:

"Okay, but the report comes across as somewhat confused as a whole, with the structure not being especially clear. I would expect to see some discussion of the theoretical principles underlying the investigation as part of the introduction, but this report doesn't address this at all. By contrast, the method is described in painstaking, and in my opinion excessive detail - concise writing, particularly here, is a valuable scientific skill. Results are clearly tabulated (though graphs would help to illustrate these) and the basic calculations are fine. It's good to see quantitative consideration of errors in the procedure, but this is where the structure comes across as particularly unclear, with substantial repetition of calculations and no clear final results being stated. There is an attempt to suggest what would improve the experiment, but no practical suggestions for how this improvement could be achieved. TSR User: Illusionary"
