The ?Hc can be measured accurately by using a device called the bomb colorimeter. A bomb colorimeter works by the fuel being ignited electrically and is burned in oxygen inside a pressured vessel. The explosion causes an energy transfer to the surrounding water area, whose temperature increase is measured. The bomb colorimeter is a very accurate way to measure enthalpy change of combustion because it is able to trap energy to find exact results. The heat energy is trapped by the water absorbing it and also there being an air jacket, this helps to insulate, in a way, so the heat does not get transferred out of the machine, and...
