What is A Level Chemistry?

The A Level Chemistry course is designed to help students appreciate the vital role that chemical elements play in society, both historically and today.

Why Study A Level Chemistry?

Chemistry is one of the principle sciences that make the world what it is today. Understanding the interaction of chemistry and other sciences is crucial to mankind's survival.

What Topics Are Studied in A Level Chemistry?

You might write an essay on the theory of organic chemistry. Or it might involve conducting a practical project on physical chemistry. There may also be coursework on the nature of non-organic chemistry.

Further Study after A Level

The coursework, assignments and essays you'll undertake during A Level Chemistry will prepare you for deeper investigation at Degree level in university.

What our users think of the Chemistry essays in this section:

"Very good - a very thorough exploration of a number of issues associated with nuclear fission and fusion. The writing style is impressively concise and the essay is well structured with effective use of headings/sections along with diagrams to illustrate the text. The writer clearly has a strong grasp of the scientific principles at work here, and generally takes care to explain less common technical terms as they are introduced. Overall, an impressive piece of work, evidently with considerable time spent over it. TSR User: Illusionary"

"Overall, a good planning exercise. There is a thorough exploration of the background theory, helpfully illustrated with a diagram (though the source should be referenced), and the subsequent hypothesis is well-justified. The method is clearly set out and easy to follow, though on two occasions there are 'odd' exclamation included - I can't believe that this is the final version as submitted for assessment. Regardless of this, the report would benefit from an explanation of how the experimental data will be analysed to lend support to, or to contradict, the stated hypothesis. TSR User: Illusionary"

"Generally quite good, though this is only the planning section of a report. The report begins with a brief discussion of the background theory, though I feel that the theory should have been possible to explain without needing to quote from reference sources. The method is well laid out and easy to follow, but I don't feel that the explanation of how to perform the subsequent calculation is quite complete. The report would benefit from a justification for the details (e.g., quantities) of the method described, but this is still quite good overall. TSR User: Illusionary"

"A superb, extremely thorough report on this investigation. I'm struggling to think of any way in which this might be improved - all that I would suggest is that certain parts of the writing (such as the method) could be made more concise, without losing the important points. The introductory discussion of the background theory stands out as particularly strong, being well-structured and helpfully illustrated with diagrams, and gives the impression that the author fully understands the topic. The concluding evaluation is also especially good, with both qualitative *and* quantitative discussion of errors. TSR User: Illusionary"

"A useful revision tool for various identification tests, but I don't feel that this is really suitable as a assessed piece of work. The content is clearly laid out in a logical order, but for this to act as more than a 'prompt card' there needs to be some discussion of the theoretical justification of the reasons *why* the tests work the way that they do.
