Why was Britain the first industrial nation? Britain became the first industrial nation for five major reasons. There was a ready supply of money to finance businesses, arising out of the profits of rich traders. Developments in the banking system made it easier to borrow money throughout the country. We were rich in the raw materials that industries needed. We had several very talented inventors and entrepreneurs and, finally, we succeeded in developing an efficient network of waterways and railways to transport industrial goods. Britain might not have been the first industrial nation if there had not been a ready supply of money to get some key industries started. This paragraph will show that some of the money came from the profits of traders who operated on the slave triangle. This was a journey taken by hundred's of ships every year until finally it was abolished with the help of William Wilberforce...
