Housing demand has never been, so far, such an issue for both the government and the building industry. This essay will discuss about the trend in demand for housing in the UK and the difficulties the government and the industry face when dealing with predicted demands. It will also talk about: the change in the living standard of people, the actual social life of people, their affordability, the rate of birth compared to that of death, the number of international migration, and their consequences in demand. It also considers the problems that the government has to face namely, environmental issues, migration towards the south and the gap between demand and supply. The building industry faces problems such as lack of skilled labour and supplies of houses in high demand areas where there is a scarcity of land for new construction.
