Gmail is a web-based e-mail service provided by Google. Gmail differs from other web-based e-mail services, such as MSN and Yahoo!, in that it provides users one gigabytes of storage from the beginning and also uses the Google search technology to index emails in order to allow users to search their entire e-mail collection instantly; but, also in ways that concern many privacy groups and individuals. Practices such as e-mail scanning and indexing, placing ads in e-mails, and the potential linking of e-mails with user searches are all causes for privacy concerns.. Another valid concern is for individuals who simply send e-mails to Gmail account holders - they have no opportunity to accept Google's policies and unknowingly are being "watched" by Google.
