ICT in Business Explored

ICT in Business Defined

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Business is the study of the role in business life of computers, networks, automation, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer-aided drawing (CAD).

Why Study ICT in Business?

Technology plays such a central role in business life today. Very few companies these days trade without using any computers. As such, it's vital that you're comfortable using technology, even at a basic level. And if you want to progress to higher levels of business, you'll need to know how ICT can benefit a company.

What Will I Study?

You might write essays evaluating different companies' e-commerce strategies or online expansion plans. Your projects and coursework might require you to discuss how automation can improve a company's productivity, or to comment on the effects of computer-aided work in engineering or manufacturing.

Further Study After ICT in Business

ICT links in with other topics in the Business Studies AS or A Level; it influences a business's marketing, manufacturing and human resource activities. As such, it can benefit Degree-level study of many business and finance topics, where ICT will be used and studied at a deeper level.

"A rather naive and simplistic essay addressing the author's plans to start a small business. The attempt to write a business plan is fundamentally flawed - there has been no proper assessment of the market, and merely having a "large population" is no indicator that people will be attracted to the business. There is also an attempt to describe a business' main aims, which does generate some useful suggestions; however, the author fails to recognise that in general, the overriding aim for a business will be to make a profit. I would also suggest that an essay of this type would benefit from a more structured approach, using headings to break up the text rather than using a single block of writing. TSR User: Illusionary"
