The Narrator's Role in Chronicles of a Death Foretold Chronicles of a Death Foretold is a story with an investigation into the past. The novel is written in first person but the narrator appears to be omniscient. The narrator's role was not to determine innocence or guilt, but an attempt to show the reader an understanding of what happened. The narrator however does encounter difficulties: the fact that a journey into the past might not be a reliable source because we cannot judge how well we know our past. Another problem faced by the narrator is the fact that we cannot trust our memories. He warns us by saying "trying to put the broken mirror of memory back together from so many scattered shards." (p.6), thus declaring how the given information might not be perfectly reliable. One of the narrator's roles in the novel is to act as a source of information...
