Recently many british based firms have been transferring production abroad, to what extent is this trend desirable Darren Taylor A2 Business Studies 20th January 2003 An increasing number of British firms, operating in a variety of industries are finding ways of using foreign labour and products in order to minimise production costs. Firms are taking the opportunity to but land abroad and setup factories and production units which best suit the needs of their business. There are many advantages to the system of global production. Businesses are able to make use of relatively cheap labour in certain economically less developed areas of the world. They can use the local, unskilled workforce for basic unskilled or repetitive tasks and bring in their own specialists to run the factory, or even train up members of the local workforce to do the job of a supervisor or manager.
