The nervous system, endocrine system, the brain and its structures interact in many ways. The nervous system has two subdivisions called the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system; there are also numerous structures in the nervous system in addition to the brain. The nervous system is divided into the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system includes the brain and the spinal cord, which both are entirely covered with bone for protection.
