Aim The aim of this experiment is to investigate how effectively the enzyme amylase breaks down starch at different temperatures, and therefore to find the optimum temperature of amylase. Safety precautions Throughout the experiment, safety precautions were taken to ensure that the experiment was conducted in a safe manner: safety goggles would be worn at all times. All parts of the experiment would be undertaken with care, to ensure that there was no spillage. Any spillages of iodine or starch would be cleaned up immediately. If any starch solution, iodine indicator or amylase was accidentally ingested, medical attention would be sought immediately. Much care was taken to ensure that no water came into contact with the water baths power supply.
