Biology Planning The effect of temperature on the survival of yeast cells Prediction: Yeast cells are sensitive to changes in temperature. It is important not to let fermentation reach too high a temperature as this may kill too many of the yeast cells. At low temperatures (0-10ºC) yeast will not grow, but not die either. At temperatures 10-37ºC yeast will grow and multiply, faster at higher temperatures with an optimal growth at 30 or 37 ºC (that depends on the species). At higher temperature the cells become stressed, meaning that their content becomes damaged and which can be repaired to some degree. At high temperatures (>50 ºC) the cells die. Therefore I predict that the lowest possible temperature at which yeast cells will die is 47 ºC and that I will hope to prove this by caring out and experiment which will investigate the effects of the suspension of living yeast cells...
