INVESTIGATION- OSMOSIS AIM: The aim of this investigation is to observe the effect of osmosis on the mass and length of potato rods placed in different concentrations of sucrose solution and to determine the point of equilibrium where, the net flow of water in and out of the potato rod is equal. INTRODUCTION: Water molecules will flow through a semi- permeable membrane by diffusion along a concentration gradient. Therefore as a result of diffusion, molecules reach a state of equilibrium that is evenly spread across the cell membrane when the concentration is the same size on both sides of the cell membrane. Diffusion is when molecules in gas move about in a random fashion. They also collide with one another, filling up any available space. The 'spreading out' is what we call 'diffusion'. It happens when there is a high concentration of molecules in one place and low in the other. The difference...
