I will be conducting an experiment how the extent of heating inactivates an enzyme. I will be showing how the activity of the enzyme is measured after appropriate heat treatments have been induced upon it. Urease is the enzyme that will be used. This enzyme catalyses the breakdown of urea in the body. When urea breaks down it is turned into ammonium carbonate, which is an alkaline substance. Urease can be made by crushing one tablet of urease in to a fine powder. The powder is then placed into 3cm3 of distilled water, which is in a test tube. The solution is then stirred and allowed to settle. A substance will separate from the solution, this is the chalk in which the urease was stored and protected.
