Composition of Blood Blood is mostly comprised of plasma. This is a fluid in which all of the bloods contents are transported. It carries; * water to dissolve substances such as glucose, prothrombin and fibrinogen * proteins which are used to buffer the pH of the blood * glucose for transporting to muscles for respiration * lipids on their way to releasing energy in respiration * amino acids being transported to cells for protein synthesis or release energy in respiration * salts to decrease the water potential of blood so that cells aren't dehydrated by osmosis * hormones used for sending chemical messages around the body * antigens preventing white blood cells from attacking the own person's cells * urea being transported to the kidney so it can be filtered out of the blood Although, blood also has three other cells that it transports around the body, each designed for it purposes.
