Background information The cell membrane of the cytoplasm in a plant cell is partially permeable, meaning it is porous and allows small molecules such as water to pass through it, but no larger molecules such as sucrose which are unable to pass through the small pores very easily. A region of high concentration of water is either a very dilute solution of something such as sucrose or pure water (it has a larger proportion of molecules).
