Genetics, Evolution & Biodiversity Explored

Genetics, Evolution and Biodiversity: What Do These Mean?

Evolution and biodiversity are among the earliest topics studied in AS Level Biology. Evolution is critical to biological survival; organisms must evolve and diversify to meet new environmental challenges. Genetics involves the study of gene evolution, genetic engineering and the associated challenges and potential.

Why Study Genetics, Evolution and Biodiversity?

To learn about biological habitats we must observe their biodiversity, and the maintenance of biodiversity is critical to our future. Evolution tells us that all organisms have the same origin; understanding these evolutionary paths advances our appreciation of the biological interrelation of all organisms.

What Will I Study?

The coursework during these units of Biology AS or A Level will allow essay writing on topics including gene therapy, cystic fibrosis and stems cells. There will also be practical projects such as measuring species richness in habitats, and assessment of strategies for data collection in the field.

Genetics, Evolution and Biodiversity: Further Study

These topics are studied early on, which means they’re important prerequisites to studying further topics such as photosynthesis, cellular variation, gene technologies and biological sustainability. Your projects, coursework and essays will equip you for continued study at A Level or Degree-level Biology.
