Golden Rice: Synopsis Golden rice was first thought of as the golden solution due to the fact that its pro vitamin A. However, there is a misconception about this genetically modified rice, the golden rice grains don't have vitamin A with in. Golden rice grains have Beta-Carotene placed inside, which then turns into vitamin A within the body. Golden rice was supposed to be the "Golden Solution" for vitamin A deficiency. The scientific process that took place to make this genetic modification possible is called electroporation. In this process cell wall degrading enzymes are used to degenerate the cell wall. After this, the cell is placed into a solution and is turned into a protoplast. An electric current is then sent through the solution, which opens the cell's pores, and allow the genes to enter.
