Genetically Modified Organisms Can Only Be Harmful to Humans In this essay I will be looking at the ideas concerned with genetically modified organisms and their effect on the lives of humans. I will be looking at the advantages and disadvantages including the risks of genetically modified organisms as well as the ethical issues of the whole idea. A Genetically Modified Organism is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using techniques in genetics generally known as recombinant DNA technology. Recombinant DNA technology is the ability to combine DNA molecules from different sources into the one molecule in a test tube. The first GMO was created in 1973 by Stanley N. Cohen and Herbert Boyer. Thus, the abilities or the phenotype of the organism, or the proteins it produces, can be modified through the modification of its genes.
