Biology coursework Aim: To investigate the effect of placing identical chips into sucrose solutions of different concentrations. Background information: Osmosis is defined as the net movement of water or any other solutions molecules from a region in which they are highly concentrated to a region in which they are less concentrated. Osmosis is the proccess which governs the movement of water through cells. The movement of water is controlled by differing concentrations found around the cell when water is surrounding a cell with a high concentration. eg. sugar molecules are present in the cell, water will move into the cell. This is known as endosmosis. The reverse is known as exosmosis. (do a diagram showing how the water molecules move to high concentrations from low concentrations through the cell membrane, but the sugar molecules can't get through the cell membrane cos they are too big) The molecules will continue to diffuse until the area...
