Investigate the effects of sucrose concentration on OSMOSIS in potato chips Problem What is the effect of sucrose concentration on OSMOSIS in potato chips? Introduction/Plan Osmosis is the diffusion of water from a dilute solution to a more concentrated solution through a partially permeable membrane that allows the passage of water molecules but not solute molecules. Pure water Sugar dissolved in water We can investigate this by placing a potato chip into pure water and weighing it before and after it is placed in the beaker of liquid. I then will gradually increase the concentration of the sucrose solution to see what effect this will have on the mass of the potato chip. Independent Variable * I am going to change the concentration of the sucrose/sugar solution. Dependent Variable * I am going to measure the mass of the potato chip and the amount of liquid in the beaker. Controlled Variables * To make...
