... COURSEWORK ASSIGNMENT 3 Draft 3 Effects of exercise on cardiovascular system Aim: In this experiment I am going to investigate the effects of exercise on cardiovascular system of healthy individuals by measuring and comparing the changes in heart rate during and immediately after exercise. Introduction: I predict that during exercise the heart rate will increase rapidly depending on the intensity of exercise and the resting rate will be restored soon after exercise has stopped. I believe that these changes are caused by the increased need for oxygen and energy in muscles as they have to contract faster during exercise. When the exercise is finished the heart rate will gradually decrease back to the resting pulse rate as the muscles' need for oxygen and energy will be smaller than during exercise. Apparatus: · time-measuring equipment (stopwatch) · exercise equipment (stepper) · calculator · pen/pencil and paper Plan: Four healthy subjects, two males and two females, age range 25 - 35, non-smokers with no
