'True friends are like diamonds, precious and rare; false ones like autumn leaves, found everywhere'. This is one of the beautiful American proverbs which clearly define diamonds. Diamonds are precious stones of pure carbon in crystal form. The word diamond came from a Greek word 'Adamas' which means unconquerable. Diamonds are the most expensive and valuable of all jewellery as they are the hardest material known on earth. Every diamond is different whether they are detectable or not to the naked eye. Each diamond has various significant characteristics that make it unique. To ensure that diamonds are of the highest quality they are evaluated by jewellers using the Four Cs method. The method includes colour, clarity, carat and cut. Diamonds are found in all the colours of the rainbow including faint yellow, brown, rare pinks, greens, blues or dark reds etc. Collectively these coloured diamonds are called 'fancy coloured diamonds'.
